This Week's Podcast Pick

Its time for the weekly podcast pick, (again). Here are the podcasts that have made it to my infamous list in no particular order:

MacBreak Weekly
Still at the top; simply put, MacBreak Weekly is the land of audio milk and honey. (and lately; lots and lots of rat holes which we all love anyway) - miss this netcast not!
Leo Laporte, Merlin Mann, Scott Bourne and Alex Lindsay
http://www.twit.tv/mbw

This Week In Tech
Its still around, its still kicking, its still great and its still on the MacTake Podcast Pick list!
Hosts: Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, John C. Dvorak, Merlin Mann and other tech luminaries. Don't miss this netcast!

Typical Mac User Podcast
Victor Cajiao is really quite a pro at not only doing live talkshoe podcasts, but hosting an entertaining and well informed podcast. Check this out especially if you're a new user or switcher, but often it still will be just as informative for veteran users as it is for switchers!
Host: Victor Cajiao

MacCast
Suprised? You shouldn't be. The MacCast makes the list once again, for simply being ear-drum candy. Informative, funny, well produced and in wonderful enhanced feed format, this comma-delimited list just won't end. Don't miss out on this great podcast. Also check out the listener forums for great tips and tricks at http://forum.maccast.com/
Host: Adam Christianson
http://www.maccast.com/

The Merlin Show
I blogged about this show's launch and as I initially expected, it did not disappoint. In glorious Hi-def or iPod format and filled with some of Mannkind's greatest video moments (or interviews), it's audio, video and to a debatable degree telepathic, candy. Don't miss out!
Host: Merlin Mann

MacCast Loop
A great roundtable discussion and community live talkshoe podcast, featuring hosts from the MacCast and the TMUP, this show has proven to its captive audience, that its something never to be missed. Catch it every sunday!
Host: Adam Christianson & Victor Cajiao
http://www.maccast.com/loop

Net@Nite
Still around, and still excellent so far as I can tell. I haven't actually had a chance to catch up with their very latest episode ('Code Monke Like Fritoes'), not all of it anyway. But they've been on my list before, and they've updated this week (or late last) and so qualify well to sit here again! I love the style of interviews, the great mix that Leo Laporte and Amber MacArthur are together and really just the atmosphere that this well informed show spills out. This is a netcast not to be missed!

Google MacTake (Mistake)

Google has done his/her duties, and kindly indexed the oldest, most poorly worded post of the MacTake (as per tradition with all my blogs).

Upon searching for 'mactake' Google suggests:
Mistake
Google then follows up with the second oldest post on the MacTake.

This brings up an interesting question: Is Google male or female?
Assuming that it is sentient; is Google just one enormous unpaid gremlin forced to forever index mankind's needs for 'lonelygirl15', general 'celebrity pr0n' and 'free download h4x3d serialz'?

Or is it a social group of telepathic and genetically modified hamsters?

Either way I'm grateful for its very existence, but you tell me!

TheWorldToday

Alasdair Corbett (versuscom.com) and I have bravely teamed up to author a daily blog and weekly gag comic over at www.twtoday.co.uk . (TheWorldToday)

I'm really excited to have this chance to work on a blog and comic with Alasdair, and so far have been really enjoying the experience.

Meanwhile, did you know that the funny button in the top right hand corner of a finder window (for example) has an official Apple name?

Thats right, they call it: 'the little white pill'.

I dibs the name for my upcoming mac comic brainchild. Don't touch!

The Merlin Show

Merlin Mann, father of www.43folders.com has just started a new video netcast called the Merlin Show at
http://www.themerlinshow.com.

By 'just', I do mean already 4 episodes through it. Fans of ThatPhoneGuy will be happy to hear that The Merlin Show is in iPod compatible format.

Merlin seems to be focusing on doing interviews with other visionaries, and as far as I can say, its working! I can thoroughly endorse and recommend this netcast, rank it on your best-of-podcasting list right up next to the MacCast and MacBreak Weekly.

Apple TV

I'm a day or so late for this one, and probably even the iPhone news, but Apple have had to delay the shipping of the Apple TV till mid-march.

Now I did read this news about the Apple TV on maccast.com, so kudo's and credit to Adam for being on the ball!

Read about it and more at:

New iPhone Teaser Ad

Apple have released a new iPhone teaser ad, featuring clips from a selection of films in which someone is holding a telephone and saying the equivalent of 'Hello'.

You can check this ad out at:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/hello/

Interesting to note that the word iPhone isn't anywhere in the ad, and the phone still seems to be set to come out in June. We do get a nice view of the iPhone's back though.

Note as well that Apple doesn't seem to have made any progress with their FCC approval yet, but I'm sure its in the works.

New iTunes 'Just for you' beta Roll Out

Now I don't know how long this has been up, but I noticed it just now whilst browsing iTunes for some music. Nothing too new, I'm nice and comfortable in my musical taste niche (if you will).

Scrolling down, I see iTunes has suggested to me songs it thinks I will like. And well, apart from the KT Tunstall (which I may probably actually listen to one day, just to be open to change), its pretty on track.

I know this technology has been around for ages, and is relatively easy to code into anything from php to the dreaded visual basic, but to me at least its news and fairly exciting to see it being rolled out on the iTunes store.

You can tell the system that you already own a song that it has suggested, or that you really don't like it.

Just a note, I don't believe that this is going to be available for users without an account, but if someone has the chance it'd be great to have that checked out.

MacCast Loop

Not quite yet time for my weekly podcast round-up, but I thought I'd tell you of a new podcast in the works.

TalkShoe External Link

Adam Christianson and Victor Cajiao have teamed up to do a live talkshoe podcast together. Now from past experience we know that Adam + Victor + podcast = great show, so I doubt that we'll be disappointed with the MacCast Loop.

Adam and Victor have done podcasts together quite a few times before, my favorite being the WWDC coverage they did back in 06, so its really great to see them podcasting together on a more regular and permanent basis.

So, heads up and check out:
